women's ministry updateWomen's Ministry Update and Authentic Haitian Dinner Invitation

As a partner with us in this ministry to the people of Haiti, you know that we often send you reports on how your investments and prayers benefit orphans, pastors, and new church plants. Yet God has given our mission a deepening vision to show the love of Christ to the women of Haiti. The culture in Haiti encourages people to view grown women as little more than property of their fathers or their husbands. Unfortunately this often leads to situations in which women are severely abused by their husbands—even by men who have been exposed to the Christian faith. In one recent case, a Haitian pastor beat his wife so severely that she required hospitalization!

We believe that it is time to deepen our commitment and our encouragement to these women who are often in hopeless situations. We know that we must continue to educate and disciple the men coming through our programs in biblical family principles and that we must hold them accountable for cherishing their wives as Christ loves His Church. And yet we also believe that more must be done to help these woman and to give them tools to sustain themselves and to bring up younger women in the faith.

Our women's ministry coordinator, Linda Maphet, plans to provide sustainable seeds for the women of Haiti in our ministry areas, along with training in how to cultivate and harvest their own backyard gardens to help with meeting their family's needs. Linda also plans to continue offering family training as well as expanded skills training for women. In order to do this, Linda and our Reformation Hope team need your help. We need your prayers and, of course, your giving in support of this ministry.

Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled. Titus 2:3–5
