Mission Trip To Haiti Travelogue

By: Rev. Martin Hawley

Day 3 in Country — Monday, October 27, 2008:

As I write this mission update for Monday, October 27, 2008, it is pouring mercilessly here in Port-au-Prince. A definite tropical rain started about 10 minutes ago. Today, we spent the afternoon surveying the progress of the school building construction, including climbing onto the newly poured roof using a makeshift ladder I would never have used at home! The construction is going quite well, although additional funds will be needed to get phase I completely completed. At 3:30 pm, we started our pastor training seminar and labored with the pastors and students (37 in all) for about 1 1/2 hours. Today the topic was Sola Scriptura — the Scripture alone. Alan did an introduction on the centrality of Scripture, I taught on the organization of the Bible and the covenants. Jim Carmichael preached the evening service that followed immediately afterward. We completed the service about 7:15 pm local time.

We also learned today that among the hundreds of people who came for the Sunday services yesterday, 28 people came to faith in Jesus Christ! Tomorrow morning we are heading over to tour 40 acres with a Haitian State Department official, which the Haitian government has offered to Jean Paul and Souls Winning Ministries absolutely free for 10 years — if we can demonstrate that we will be able to farm it and irrigate it properly. The afternoon we will meet about construction needs and finances further and then the late afternoon and evening will be spent in more pastor training. It will be my turn to preach on Tuesday night and on Wednesday night as well. Things continue to be blessed of God, largely I believe due to God's working through your faithful prayers. May the Lord continue to bless you all and build His glorious kingdom through you!
