Reformation Hope E-Report
2010 Thanksgiving Issue

A Blessed Thanksgiving to All Our Ref Hope Partners

Rev. Martin Hawley, director of development

On behalf of our Haitian children and staff, as well as our RHI board and volunteers, I want to send all of you our warmest Thanksgiving greetings. God has mightily used you in bringing the certain hope of the Gospel to Haiti. He has also brought restoration and transformation to many children and adults in La Plaine, despite the earthquake, the aftershocks, the hurricane, and the cholera. Your partnership with RHI has made rebuilding and development possible and all of us thank God for you, your prayers, and your financial support. May each and every one of you have a blessed Thanksgiving, reflecting upon the love and provision of our triune God.

Responding to the Cholera Crisis

Hands under clean running water.

The cholera outbreak in Haiti has claimed 1,110 lives so far, the health ministry reported on Wednesday (11/17/2010). Another 18,382 people have been hospitalized with the disease. Civil unrest has turned violent against relief agencies and missionaries in the northern city of Cape Haitian. Pastor Paul reports that cases of the disease are beginning to appear in communities surrounding Port-au-Prince, including La Plaine, where our compound is located.

Reformation Hope, working with the assistance of Mission to the World (MTW) is responding decisively to this crisis through the immediate construction of a permanent water tower with a capacity of 6,000 to 8,000 gallons. Treated water from our compound’s main well will be stored in the tower and made available daily to everyone in our community in need of safe water. As cholera is primarily water-borne, we believe that providing safe water will stem the tide of the disease in the neighborhoods near our ministry. We give thanks to God for MTW’s willingness to work with us so quickly in addressing this severe threat to Haitian health.
